Dr.Muhammad Muzaffar Alim Javaid Siddiqui has written an excellent, well researched, scholarly work on the topic of Mawlid (Milad, Mevlud) of our beloved Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in urdu language.

"Maulvi Mumtaz Ali launched a movement for celebration of Milad-un Nabi (saws) throughout India with results that celebrations were held in several places. In 1911newspapers and magazines published special issues on Milad-un Nabi (saws). Ulama and al-mujtahiddin emphasized the celebration of Mawlids on national level.A special ijtima, a large public gathering was held at the Islamia College, Lahore. Ameer e Millat Sayyid Jama'at Ali Shah Naqshbandi, Muhaddith Alipuri (ra) chaired this conference.Speakers included Allama Muhammad Iqbal (ra). The proceedings were published in "Risala Tahzeeb e Niswan". Allama Iqbal (ra) stated " Milad Conferences are needed to understand importance of Muslim identity and unity.Muslims should be proud of their noble heritage". Shaykh Abdul Qadir, Mawlana Zafar Ali Khan,Mufti Muhammad Abdullah, Maulvi Abdul Hakim and Sayyid Jama'at Ali Shah Naqshbandi delivered speeches on Prophetic Morals (Akhlaq) and Qualities, Virtues (Shamail) at this historical Milad Conference."
In 1935 Allama Iqbal (ra) attended Milad Sharif at the Jalander Cantt and stated" Few years ago I dreamed that Allah Taala will unite this Ummah by means of Mawlid Sharif ( Celebration of the Birth of Beloved Prophet saws).For sometime I was wondering how will this be realized. Now Mass Movement to Celebrate the Birth of Prophet Muhammad (saws)"Tahreek e Youm e Al Nabi (saws) " made this dream a reality."
